Hunger is a powerful driving force.
It drives a person to accomplish great feats, to conquer and to break through opposition.
Thirst drives the deer to the watering hole.
In a similar way, the thirst of our heart drives us to search for that which is missing in our life.
But thirst can drive us to other things as well.
Hunger arouses passion and causes people to defy the rules in pursuit of self-satisfaction.
Hunger after power, after security, after money or after sex can cause people to totally abandon ground rules resulting in a life of chaos and defeat.
Only Jesus can break the power of these selfish passions.
In place of them, He puts a longing and hunger for God in our heart.
Only God, Himself, can satisfy this insatiable hunger.
Just as physical food only satisfies for a while,
so too must we return often to God to be re-filled.
To hunger after righteousness is to hunger after Jesus,
the One who became our righteousness.
It is to hunger after everything He is and has and all His kingdom represents.
When we hunger after righteousness, we are grieved by unrighteousness.
We no longer defend injustices, small or great, private or structural.
God’s heart is moved when He sees those who are poor, weak, destitute, abused, and those who have been neglected and treated unjustly.
The gospel covers every aspect of human life.
Revival touches every echelon of society.
The answer to unrighteousness is not group egotism, hate or more injustice but God’s kingdom, which consists of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
Where Jesus is, righteousness flourishes.
